We worked with figure competitor Jen Burns at the 2011 Excalibur. Jen credits some of her modeling creativity to looking at Playboy magazine, learning the poses and then tweaking them with the added bonus of some muscle. The end result is Playboy meets muscle model Jen Burns.

This is a video capture from our work with Jen. See more here.

Chantelle Alessio Featured in F.I.L.E.S.

Grab the latest issue of F.I.L.E.S. or click here to read online and checkout the feature on buff beauty Chantelle Alessio.

The accompanying photos come from a shoot we did with Chantelle just after she walked away with second-place honors in the 2010 Sandra Wickham in the bikini short class. Pretty impressive considering it was just her first time competing.

Is there anyone competing in bikini with better abs than Chantelle's rippling, washboard mid-section?

Chantelle Alessio and Twins Propel Canucks to Victory

If you're not a hockey fan, stop reading now and just enjoy the photo.

The Vancouver Canucks entered game five of the Stanley Cup finals knotted at two games apiece with the Bruins of Boston. A victory would put them just one win away from sipping champagne from the Cup. Defeat and it's back to the unfriendly confines of Boston's home ice trailing by a game. The last two games showed Boston to be anything but genial hosts.

Like any good fan of the Canucks, hard-bodied Chantelle Alessio knew what had to happen: The twins had to fight through the coverage of the previous games if Vancouver hoped to stave off defeat. She knew that the twins had to get out in the open.

Chantelle attended game five in her official Canucks t-shirt. For three periods, the twins bounced around Rogers Arena seemingly unfettered. They worked their magic like only twins can do.

Although they didn't score, the twins certainly played a major role in helping the Canucks eke out a 1-0 victory over the Bruins, putting the hometown boys within a win of hockey's holy grail.

As Chantelle said in her photo caption, "Hope the TWINS kill it out there tonight!"

Perhaps the twins distracted the Bruins. Whatever the reason, we have no doubt that Chantelle played a huge role in this pivotal game five victory.

At this crucial juncture of the season, does anyone doubt the value of the twins?

Can any real hockey fan honestly say he doesn't enjoy watching the twins in action?

It's obvious that the Canucks need Chantelle and the twins if they hope to clinch this series. Besides, who else can make a Canucks t-shirt look so good?

One small question remains that perhaps only Chantelle can answer: Which one is Henrik and which one is Daniel?

Muscle Barbie Megan Avalon

Not that we ever need an excuse to publish an image of muscle beauty Megan Avalon, but she did send us some news to go with her photo.

Currently Megan has her pro card in two categories - Physique and Sports Model - with the INBA organization. Her future plans include a transition to the NPC in late 2012 where she will compete in figure. She continues to work hard in the gym in preparation for her NPC debut.

Ultimately she plans to make the move to the physique division because as she explains, "I love bodybuilding and the creativity and individuality it brings, especially the routine round. I love showing off my personality and stage presence."

Although still relatively new to the muscle world, Megan's "Barbie with Muscles" image has earned her a very strong and loyal fan base. Additionally she's built a positive reputation as one of the hardest working models in the business.

Kelly Kerr - New IDFA Pro

Congratulations to Kelly Kerr on winning her IDFA pro card on May 7, 2011.

Not hard to see why after looking at her. This woman has an amazing physique and great stage presence, even the more remarkable considering that she's essentially a neophyte competitor.

We were lucky enough to spot her at her first-ever competition earlier this year, FAME West. Looking at her, it was hard to believe you were watching a first-time competitor. Even more impressive was her presence in front of the camera for her shoot. Kelly just brings that extra something with her to the table.

It will be more than interesting following her progress through 2011. Go Kelly!

Olesha Karringten & Erica Blezard: Reality TV Audition

What happens when sexy, bad-ass MMA fighter Olesha Karringten meets the equally sexy Erica Blezard, muscle model?

Sparks, flexing, sexy muscle and a kiss!

These two buff beauties definitely showed some great chemistry during their on-camera interview. As well, both women are very competitive and both are curious to see who really is the stronger of the two. Is it the MMA fighter or the muscle model?

Although she has limited wrestling experience, Erica wants to see if her 35-lbs. weight advantage will allow her to hang with Olesha on the mats. Look for the two muscle girls to test each other out in future encounters. And of course, a lot more hot muscle posing and flexing.

The Erica and Olesha show. Check your listings for day and time.

Emerald Cup 2011 - Joy Kushner

Joy Kushner. In a word, wow! Holy hotness Batman, Joy is one frightfully beautiful woman.

While perusing the Emerald Cup venue with my ace wing-man Lou Krivda I happened to spot an incredibly attractive and buff woman talking on her cell phone. Introductions were in order followed by the obligatory biceps flexing shot. The next step was a photoshoot.

Although not experienced in front of the camera, Joy had no problems wowing us with both her physique and cover-girl look.

Joy hails from the state of Montana and is a former figure competitor turned bikini competitor.

We plan to follow Erica as she preps for this event. Look for more photo and video leading up to her August stage debut.

Right now Erica has great potential as a muscle model with her balance of curves, muscle and sex appeal. It should be interesting to see how she ties this impressive package up for her first physique show.

FAME West 2011 - Conchita Huddlestan

Conchita Huddlestan from FAME West, Maple Ridge, BC, March 26, 2011.

Upcoming for FAME look for The Pacific Rim Championships, August 5-7, 2011, in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The promoters told us that this will be one of their most ambitious events to date. If you're in Vancouver at that time, make sure you check out this show.

Erica Blezard

One good thing about going to shows is that sometimes you find some hot talent in the crowd. Case in point, the eye-catching Erica Blezard.

As soon as we spotted her in the FAME West audience, our attention shifted from the stage to Erica. After meeting her we quickly discovered that this girl is the real deal.

At just under 5-9 and weighing in at a curvy (39-27-39) 165 pounds, Erica commands your attention with her physical presence. Even though we took only a single photo, it was clear she was comfortable on camera. Later we found out that Erica is a model.

But it's the athletic background where things really get serious. Erica's background includes nine years of ringette; three years of swimming; two years of water polo, a year of boxing; six years of hockey playing with the guys; and high school gymnastics and volleyball. She started weight training in 2003.

Erica is working toward her first competition this summer, The Pacific Rim Championships August 5-7, 2011 in downtown Vancouver.

Just Erica and Kelly Kerr alone should be reason enough to check out this event.

More Kelly

If Kelly looks this impressive after just one show, just imagine what she'll look like with a couple of shows under her belt.

Check her out as she plans to compete in The Pacific Rim Championships, August 5-7, 2011, in Vancouver, BC. Kelly alone is worth the price of admission.

Kelly Kerr's Killer Quads

Kelly Kerr definitely brought some winning legs to her first competition, FAME West 2011. It paid off as she walked away with first-place in the Muscle Model and Figure categories.

The 5-2, 110-pound, first-time competitor has a lifetime of athletic involvement behind her, including 16 years of soccer. Add to the mix baseball, track and field, volleyball and tennis; top off with intense weight training and dieting; and you have a winning package for the physique stage.

Fans will have the opportunity to see Kelly in action as she plans to compete in The Pacific Rim Championships, August 5-7, 2011, in Vancouver, BC.

FAME West 2011

FAME West took place in Maple Ridge on March 26, 2011. This event marked Kevin Friesen's first time flying solo as a promoter and he delivered big time. Thanks to Kevin and a great staff, the event started on time and ran smoothly from start to finish.

Of course, none of that would matter too much without some quality talent on stage and this show definitely came through.

One of the highlights was first-time competitor Kelly Kerr. Seeing Kelly on stage, it was hard to believe she didn't have a couple of competitions under her belt. Not only was she dialed in with her physique, but she displayed strong stage presence as well.

The judges thought as much, rewarding her with first in Figure and first in Muscle Model categories. An auspicious foray for Kelly into the world of physique competition.

The 25-year-old boasts an impressive athletic background, having played soccer for 16 years as well as baseball, track and field, volleyball and tennis. This would explain Kelly's more than impressive legs.

Upcoming for FAME look for The Pacific Rim Championships, August 5-7, 2011, in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The promoters told us that this will be one of their most ambitious events to date. If you're in Vancouver at that time, make sure you check out this show.

Special thanks to Kevin Friesen and his great staff for their hospitality and to our friend David at TwixPix for inviting us to FAME West.

Muscle Model Industry Awards

It's now official: We have the results for the first annual Muscle Model Industry Awards.

Members of the commercial paysite industry voted for their peers and favorite models in a variety of categories as follows.

Favorite Photographer for 2010: No surprise that GeneX won hands down in this one, grabbing over twice as many votes as the next closest shooter. For my money, Gene is the best in the business and produces some of the most creative work around.

Brian Moss finished a distant second with a comfortable lead over third-place Dan Ray.

Giving Dan his kudos, he is one of the busier shooters I know. He pumps out great work covering the shows and shooting the competitors off stage.

Favorite Videographer for 2010: Steve Scibelli in a landslide garnering three times as many votes as the runner-up.

Similar to GeneX, Steve displays great creativity in the work he produces. A well deserving first choice.

Runner-up went to James Cook, another great shooter. Not only is James great with the video, but he puts out some impressive still work to boot.

In third just slightly behind James, we had our first tie with newcomer Annie Riviecco and old pro Joe Bayer.

Not only does Annie look better than the other winners do, but also she brings a unique perspective to shooting based on her extensive experience in front of the camera.

Joe is another one that produces great work. He brings a very strong background in video and extensive tech knowhow to the table and it shows in his production quality.

Favorite Commercial Multi-Model Site for 2010: Finishing comfortably at the top in a first-place tie, Muscle Angels and FT Video. Awefilms was not too far behind followed by HD Physiques.

Favorite Commercial Single-Model Site for 2010: This category received the fewest amount of votes with a number of the voters stating that they simply did not follow single-model sites. Separated by just a single vote for each spot, first went to All Natural KO, second to Tanya Fitness and third to BrandiMae.

Favorite Non-Commercial Site/Forum/Blog for 2010: By a large margin, the favorite here was Unreal Muscle. Separated by a single vote, next came and AMG-Lite.

These results surprised me in that I really expected more votes for AMG-Lite. As AMG promotes most every site in business as well as many models, I expected them to garner more votes particularly considering the voters all come from the very industry AMG supports.

Favorite Model of the Year for 2010: This is where things went crazy with 21 different models receiving votes. Of course when you realize the variety of models the different producers work with, it simply mirrors what you see on the sites.

Leading the pack was Katka Kpytova. Tied for second one vote behind came Aleesha Young and Julie Bourassa. One vote behind them and locked in another tie, KO and Alina Popa. After that, a logjam.

Model I Would Most Like to Work with in 2011: Another one with votes everywhere as 20 models made an appearance. Leading the pack, buff newcomer Erica Cordie. Making another second-place appearance just one vote behind Erica, Aleesha Young. Katka Kyptova tied Aleesha followed by Alina Popa. Behind her, another logjam.

This one surprised me not because Erica won - she was one of my choices - but because I thought she was a bit more under the radar. Apparently not.

Having met Erica once, I can definitely say she has great presence, not to mention some kick-ass biceps. I'm looking forward to more Erica in 2011.

Besides the above names in both categories, a couple others who received double support included KO, Erica Cordie Lisa Giesbrecht and Julie Bourassa.

From the perspective of a model, if you're on either list that means you're in demand and producers want to work with you. Even better if you made both lists.

Favorite Show of 2010: The Olympia led the way followed by The Arnold and then USA's in Vegas.

Show I'm Most Looking Forward to in 2011: Obviously, the producers like Vegas as it made its third appearance on the show list with the Olympia being the event everyone is most looking forward to attending. Next, Nationals in Florida and then The Arnold.

The final category was more of an open-ended one with producers asked what they felt was the biggest threat to the industry in 2011. Hands down, piracy appeared as the big concern.

This is a small industry and it doesn't take much to make an impact. The damage done by pirates sends ripples throughout the industry. Producers can't put out as much content as they would like. Models make less money and have fewer opportunities to shoot. New models have a tougher time getting shoots because producers sometimes don't want to take a chance working with them. The pirates are definitely damaging the industry.

A variety of other concerns came up from lack of support for female bodybuilding to the overzealous use of Photoshop to poor production values.

It all adds up to an interesting 2011.
